When you consider there were only 12 of us on Trek 609 W-1 and a total of 22 on both, this many views is amazing. Thanks for following along. It was my pleasure to do it and my honor to be part of the trek. Every scout ought make the journey to Philmont Scout Ranch.

The photos shown on the blog were all taken with my iPhone. Check back after this weekend to see those taken with my Canon G11–better quality shots.

We’re getting on the plane for home. Landing at 6:30.

Thanks for reading. Hope you enjoyed following along as much as we did going. There are many more pictures and stories, but you will have to wait for the fall Court of Honor for those.

Happy trails,
Charlie.

Last steps home lead to the plane. What a trip. Now it is time to start considering whether you’ll be doing laundry or just burning what they wore for two weeks.

Here is the lone bastion of dining sanity aboard the pizza bus. Nine large pizzas and eight liters of soda, gone in under ten minutes. We are officially healed of Philmont food.

Nearly to Amarillo, our plane, and home.

Turning our watches back to Houston time and setting up our pass-by pizza pickup. Yes, there IS an app for that.

The suggestion that we merely use some of the Philmont lunches we had left over was unanimously voted down.

See you at 6:30.

Headed for home

Cole and Brian were relieved to board the bus for Amarillo probably more because it meant they were both off-duty as Crew Leaders. We’re working on finding a way to get fresh pizza delivered to the bus enroute. I am sure there must be an app for that. See you soon!

The trail has made us appreciate the simple things. Now, if only these were air conditioned.

Our ride home begins

Transported about 30 minutes from Ponil to basecamp represents the start of our journey home. But, not the end of our adventures. We have one more surprise we hope to work in on the way home.

Last lunch and no one is hungry

Everyone was willing to wait for real food an largely passed on our last bag of dining delight.

Bye bye burro

Our burro grew on all of us during our two days together. Yes, he slowed us down. Yes, he stepped on some toes. But, there’s something adorable about this burro.
